Join Harvest Yards in turning surplus backyard produce into a solution for food insecurity.
We know there are a lot of fruit and vegetables going to waste in people’s yards and there are even more people that could benefit from consuming fresh fruits and vegetables. There are people who live in areas where there is limited access to grocery markets, have physical conditions that prohibit travel, and others who simply cannot afford fresh produce. It is literally cheaper to “grab” fast food than it is to purchase fruits and vegetables in a grocery store. Fresh food should be a staple, not a luxury. We aim to help close that gap for as many people as we can. But we need your help. Every piece of fruit, every vegetable, and every plant that is cultivated to provide one more piece of healthy food for someone who needs it is a victory. Working together we can bring some hunger relief to people in our communities, help our environment, and promote lifestyle changes for healthy living one small victory at a time.
Harvest Yards will offer workshops from time to time to educate people on the environmental impact associated with planting trees, composting, and cultivating fruits and vegetables. Harvest Yards can arrange travel to local schools to educate kids about the wonders of growing plants and arrange for professionals in the industry to give lectures on productivity and environmental impact on a larger scale.
Modern society is becoming more environmentally conscious and the need for everyone to learn about and practice composting is absolutely vital. Composting helps reduce the amount of garbage in our landfills, provides organic fertilizers, and helps reduce our carbon footprint.
It is being mandated across the country that unused organic materials should not be combined with synthetic rubbish. Fruits and vegetables should be repurposed and made into organic fertilizers by composting. Composted materials that are made into fertilizers help our environment by decreasing the amount of carbon and gases produced and spewed into our atmosphere. Members of the Harvest Yard organization will be available to educate people about the benefits of composting and give tips about setting up composting systems at home.
